Official Selection Film Spotlight

Ever So Slightly

Ever So Slightly / Korea Premier, Texas Premier / Poland / 21:00

In the short film Vraiment doucement/Ever So Slightly, François Blouin re-imagines the dance work of the same title created by RUBBERBAND in 2018. Filmed in an empty Olympic Stadium in Montreal, the film follows six characters in the throes of urgency, revolt, chaos, and a desire to flee.

Our theme this year is "REFLECTIONS: a poetic exploration of human emotion, self-discovery, and cinematic nostalgia." How do you think your film relates to this theme?

RUBBERBAND's work aligns with the theme "REFLECTIONS" by blending intricate choreography and cinematic elements to create a poetic exploration of human emotion and self-discovery, evoking a deep sense of nostalgia.

What do you hope to communicate with our audience through your work?

RUBBERBAND seeks to communicate a powerful narrative of human experience, blending dynamic movement and emotional depth to inspire reflection and connection within its audience.

Whether through film and television direction, theater and circus staging, or virtual reality, François Blouin crafts worlds and captivates his audiences.

In recent years, he directed scenes for the highly acclaimed video games FAR CRY 3 and FAR CRY 4 w/ UBISOFT MONTREAL. He collaborated with MOMENT FACTORY on various projects, including one at LAX airport, where he staged a tribute to silent cinema. With FÉLIX ET PAUL STUDIO, he contributed to the conception and direction of three 3D cinematic VR experiences for CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. In 2017, he adapted and directed HAMLET DIRECTOR'S CUT, a show that involved live motion capture to tell Shakespeare's legendary story.

Blouin honed his craft through music videos and commercials (Sidlee, Bleublancrouge, Cossette, LG2) for over fifteen years.

François Blouin is currently writing his first feature-length fiction film, financed by Sodec and Telefilm Canada, produced by LA MAISON DE PROD. The film focuses on the world of cinema and the making of a science fiction movie in Montreal.
